What Our Clients Say

"Dan and his team worked very hard to meet all of our expectations. We have used them on large (Exterior remodel including stucco, gutters, window and painting and Interior remodel including bathroom, painting, drywall, plumbing) and small (urgent plumbing needs, fencing quotes, etc.) They are professional, knowledgeable and quick to respond. Dan is hands-on and works to make things how we want them."

- Ronda Heiser

"I have known Daniel for a number of years and have always been impressed with his honesty and creditability as a contractor. He is well known in the remodeling field and comes highly recommended. Renovation And Remodeling - What’s The Difference

The words “renovation” and “remodeling” are often used interchangeably and are presumed to mean the same thing. However, while they both relate to changing and/or upgrading a home, the work and the results are very different.

To renovate a building means to return it to a useable state. In other words, when a building is in a dilapidated or run-down condition, often to the extent of being unsafe to use or occupy, renovation can make it usable once more. Renovation is to take a building in a state of disrepair and return it to the original state to make it fit for occupation again.

To remodel a building is to change its form or structure. This involves anything from minor changes to alter the appearance of a home to major ones like tearing down walls to change interior layouts or room additions. Remodeling changes the appearance, structure or functionality of a house, room or space. Another way of looking at it is that remodeling can transform a home, instead of simply repairing it as in the case of renovation.

If you renovate a kitchen, you are cleaning it up, repairing wear and damage and bringing it back to a condition similar to when it was new. If you remodel a kitchen you are changing it. The extent of the change depends on what you want. It could be installing new built-in appliances, putting in new cabinets, changing the layout or size of the room or anything else that is structurally feasible.

What Is Right For You?

When it comes to your home, you want the best for it. It is the biggest investment you have made and the center of your family’s life. It needs to be looked after because the use it is subjected too will leave signs of wear and damage. That means painting walls that look dull and dirty, fixing sticking windows and all the usual routine maintenance. These are jobs that homeowners often do themselves or for which they can hold of a handyman. Minor renovations can be DIY projects.

Families are dynamic and their needs keep changing as time passes. They may need more space or may need interior layouts altered to make them easier to use. A new room may be required to cater to work, entertainment, guest or the needs of an expanding family. Home automation may need to be put in place. These are all major modifications, not simple repairs. This is remodeling. This is work that is usually beyond the abilities of the homeowner or a handyman. Despite what the internet tells you, trying to do it yourself to save money doesn’t work out. The amount of time and effort required is huge. The mistakes that an amateur makes usually require costly repairs, thereby negating the assumed savings. The work will not be up to professional standards, so the quality of the finish and durability will be significantly reduced. Remodeling is not a DIY project. It needs the expertise and experience of professionals.

If your home has become dull and stale or if it no longer meets the needs of those who live in it, then what is needed is not just renovation, but remodeling.
