What Our Clients Say

"Before I decided to remodel my home I heard lots of horror stories. I must say I had nothing but a very pleasant and nice experience. The entire crew of Daniel Mackey Construction were very nice, professional and took care of all my concerns and needs. They not only finished their job on time, but also the finished house is beautiful. I will most definitely call them with my future projects."

- Radha Rangaswamy

"We have worked with several contractors over the course of our 30 years as home owners. None has come close to the professionalism and quality of design Daniel Mackey Construction offered us on our recent remodeling project. Most contractors leave you with a sense that a shoe will drop and it does, but with Dan and Debbie there are no surprises, and that is extremely comforting."

- Lucy Helveston

2020 has been a year of the pandemic, shelter-in-place, lockdowns and a massive disruption to life. As the year draws to an end, there appears to be hope on the horizon for vaccines that will lead to the end of COVID 19 and a return to “normal” life. What all experts agree on is that the new normal will differ in many ways from the normality of the past. With hope on the horizon, it is natural for homeowners, stuck at home for so many months, to start looking at the changes they want to make to overcome the issues that arose during the lockdown when everyone was at home and to find ways to bring an element of freshness into home life. When your thoughts turn towards remodeling, you need to keep in mind the home trends we can expect to see in coming years so that your home does not become dated before its time. In the coming years we can expect to find:

New levels of energy efficiency: The passive house where energy-efficient features are added on will be a thing of the past. Energy efficiency in terms of insulation to minimize fuel bills, efficient ventilation, energy efficiency, security and automation will all be integral parts of home design. These will not demand any compromises of home styles or looks and will contribute to an increased level of comfort for the occupants of the home.

Appliances: The Internet of Things (IoT) will continue to change the way we use and control the appliances and gadgets in our homes. For example, occupancy sensors will tell the “brain” of the house when it is empty so that HVAC systems and lighting can be turned off to save power. A click on a smartphone will have the house ready for you when you return home and your dinner will be ready and waiting for you. Your refrigerator will order the items you need from the supermarket. These and other features which are already available will become even more sophisticated in the future and a house that is ready for the advanced automation to come will be able to utilize the advantages best.

Warning systems: Home maintenance will evolve into systems that will be able to anticipate where pipes will start to leak, where electrical short circuits will develop, which windows are causing excessive heat loss and so on. This will enable it to catch problems in the early stages. If expert repairs are required, a full report can be sent to the repair service so that they come prepared to do a quick and complete job.

Flexible spaces: With more pleasure time and work from home growing in popularity, space utilization will become a key factor. Flexible spaces will allow for the same space to be optimally used for different things as and when required. For example, a breakfast nook could be a homework space in the afternoon and a reading area at night.

Next month may bring a change in the way we live that we cannot imagine today. History shows that predicting the future can be dangerous. That does not mean that we and our homes should not be ready to adapt to what will come.

What’s Right For You?

There are so many predictions as to what homes will look like in the coming years. Many of them can become reality while others will fall away. There will be trends and innovations available in the coming days that we cannot conceive of now. Navigating this maze of ideas, concepts, predictions and the unknowns of tomorrow can leave you dazed and confused. That is not how you want to be when planning a home remodel. You need to know and understand what is right for your family and your home, what the future may bring and how to prepare, as far as possible, for the innovation and changes that will appear in the coming days.
