What Our Clients Say

"I hired Daniel Mackey for two different interior construction projects. They were right on time, and took care of ALL the small details that most people do not notice. They were flexible, professional and extremely nice."

- Gus Kambeitz

"Dan and his team worked very hard to meet all of our expectations. We have used them on large (Exterior remodel including stucco, gutters, window and painting and Interior remodel including bathroom, painting, drywall, plumbing) and small (urgent plumbing needs, fencing quotes, etc.) They are professional, knowledgeable and quick to respond. Dan is hands-on and works to make things how we want them."

- Ronda Heiser

How To Approach A Kitchen Remodeling Project

In the post COVID 19 world, our lives are going to be different. Among the biggest changes, for the foreseeable future, will be the way we eat and how we socialize. Eating out will involve all kinds of hassles as will meeting up with friends in public places. The focus on food and social life will be more home-centered than ever before. This will mean greater use of the kitchen. The last few months of being at home will anyway have increased kitchen use and in the process have for many highlighted flaws, the need for upgrades and an overall look and feel of being in a tired and worm room. One of the most in-demand home remodeling projects in the near future is expected to be kitchen remodeling. The kitchen is the fulcrum of domestic activity and is used for far more than simple food preparation – from homework to family meeting and coffee with neighbors, it all happens here. That is why planning and designing a kitchen remodel must be done with great care. There are 3 basic ways to approach the project.

A Kitchen Designer

Kitchen designers specialize only in designing kitchens. That means that they have a lot of experience in it and will normally be able to offer a number of designs for homeowners to choose from. The designs look good and appear to give the family the kitchen it needs. However, once the design is finalized, it is then given to a contractor to execute the job. This can create problems as the contactor may find problems with the design, discover the costing is not correct or may have ideas to present to the client that the kitchen designer is not in favor of. The result of this is often conflict between the designer and the contractor and the finished kitchen remodel suffers in terms of appearance and quality.

A General Contractor

Homeowners who think they know exactly the kind of kitchen they want, down to the design of the cabinet doors, may be tempted to use a general contractor in the expectation that he will follow the instructions he is given and produce the kitchen that the clients wants. The problem here is that the homeowners’ design and plan may have technical or functional problems that only an expert will appreciate. When this is pointed out, disappointment may lead to wrong alternatives being chosen or futile arguments with the contractor. Even if the design is workable, there may be other design and feature options that the homeowners are not aware of and which could make the kitchen even better. The opportunity to have the best possible kitchen may be lost.

A Design-Build Remodeling Firm

As the name says a design-build home remodeling contractor is one that has the design skills to translate homeowners’ concepts into a viable reality because the design will incorporate the technical and material aspects in which the contractor also has expertise. In other words, when working with a design-build professional, what the homeowners see is what they get – the kitchen they have dreamed of. This is what Daniel Mackey Construction is known for.
