What Our Clients Say

"We have worked with several contractors over the course of our 30 years as home owners. None has come close to the professionalism and quality of design Daniel Mackey Construction offered us on our recent remodeling project. Most contractors leave you with a sense that a shoe will drop and it does, but with Dan and Debbie there are no surprises, and that is extremely comforting."

- Lucy Helveston

"Dan and his team worked very hard to meet all of our expectations. We have used them on large (Exterior remodel including stucco, gutters, window and painting and Interior remodel including bathroom, painting, drywall, plumbing) and small (urgent plumbing needs, fencing quotes, etc.) They are professional, knowledgeable and quick to respond. Dan is hands-on and works to make things how we want them."

Start Summer With A New Deck

Few parts of America are as conducive to the enjoyment of a deck as California. A well designed and located deck will add to the external appeal of a dwelling. A deck is one of the most cost-effective ways to add value to a home. The ways that a deck may be used are many and are really limited by your imagination. If you are contemplating adding a deck to your home this summer, here are just a few of the many reasons why you should go ahead.

Extra Space

A deck is a great place to entertain, eat al fresco with the family or just hang out and watch the sunset. Once a deck is in place, most families find that they spend more time out on it than they ever expected. Spending time out in the open air is always good. In addition, decks are easier to clean than interior space with carpets, upholstery, curtains, etc. In other words, the more that is done on the deck, the less cleaning indoors. A well-designed deck should have space, seating and tables that are needed for its planned uses.

Peace And Quiet

There are few things as relaxing as sitting on a deck with a coffee or drink at your side and letting time flow around you. It a great place to read, nap or just watch the nature around you. Half an hour spent chilling on the deck can set you up for the rest of the day.

Enhance Your Backyard

A deck adds a new dimension to the backyard, opening up all kinds of possibilities for outdoor enjoyment. You may be barbecuing in the yard, playing with the kids or just sitting and watching the flowerbeds. Once you have a deck, you have many more options for all these and other outdoor activities.

Make It Part Of The Pool

If you have a pool in your backyard, or a planning on installing one, a deck can make the area around it safer and more user friendly. A deck will direct the flow of traffic around the pool while also providing space for seating and sunbathing. Room for storing pool supplies can be built into the deck, saving space and making access easier. A pool is a great looking addition to a house, but a pool with a deck around it looks even better.

Doing It Right

Putting in a new deck may seem like an easy project for a person with reasonable handyman skills and a love of DIY projects. The impression is reinforced by the many movies and TV shows that depict families bonding while working together on installing a deck. The reality is quite different.

A deck is more than a wooden platform attached to a house.

•  It must be deigned to be an integral part of the structure and not stick out like a sore thumb.

•  It must be safe to use – having someone trip on the uneven floor is not going to make the deck user friendly.

•  It should be suitable for all the uses the family may plan for it.

•  It must be safe for young children and the elderly.

•  It should incorporate electricity outlets and water supply and drainage if that will enhance its uses.

•  A deck is not something that is replaced every few years. It must be made to last and keep looking good with the minimum of maintenance.
