What Our Clients Say

"From initial design to completed room addition, our experience with Daniel Mackey Construction has been a refreshingly pleasant one. They have been consistently on-time, on-budget, and on-call; quick to respond to our questions and concerns. They've been key problem solvers in designing solutions that are modern in execution, but match the arts and craft style of our 90+ year-old home. We are thrilled with the finished product and even more excited that we avoided the 'contractor nightmares' that so many others have experienced with other firms. We highly recommend Mackey Construction."

Home Remodeling And You

In a world that is becoming increasingly complex, the need for specializations continually increases. We keep dealing with all kinds of experts, from those that repair our computers to those who cure us of sickness and much more. In most cases, these experts enter our lives for a short while and then fade away. One type of expert that stays with you long after his work is done is the home remodeling contractor. The home he remodels is where you will be living for many years to come. Not only must the contractor be one who can do the best possible job for you, but he is also one with whom you will form a relationship far closer than with almost any other expert/professional with whom you may interact. A qualified and professional remodeler will do his best to give clients what they want. However, knowing how to work with your remodeler will provide you with 2 huge benefits: Your participation in the project will be more effective and the overall remodeling experience will be more enjoyable.

Working With A Home Remodeling Contractor

  • Find the right contractor: This sounds obvious but it is surprising how many people choose their contractors for the wrong reasons – the lowest cost and the quickest completion are among the most common reasons for making mistakes. You don’t want to waste money and you want to keep the disruption to the home to the shortest time. But a cheap remodel done in a rush will never be a quality job. Talk to your contractor to understand his costing and time frames. A good one will be open about these issues because he knows they are justified.
  • Plan ahead: Remodeling plans are always subject to change – there are always uncertainties to deal with. However, the more you plan ahead, the easier it will be for the contractor to give you what you want.
  • Think of the future: Ask for the contractor's advice on future maintenance and upkeep issues. What he tells you could cause you to modify your plans and achieve even better results.
  • Don’t get in the way: It is your home and you are paying for the remodel. However, keep in mind that the contractor is the professional and knows what he is doing. You have every right to be part of the process, but do not get in the way and disrupt the workflow. Fix a time every day to meet the project supervisor to ask your questions and get the answers and inputs you want.
  • Do not get frustrated: You may not understand why things are being done is a certain way. It may not make sense to you. A home remodel involves a large number of activities, all going on at the same time. The contractor will have a reason for what is doing. Ask him about it, but once again, try not to disrupt the workflow.
  • Protect your valuables: A professional contractor will do his best to protect your personal property. However, in the confusion of the remodel, things can get lost or misplaced easily. Put all your small valuables away in a safe place. You will feel more relaxed and the contractor will have one less thing to worry bout.
  • You are dealing with people: A professional contractor and his team will treat you with respect. That does not mean that you should take it for granted or that it is okay to be rude to them. Treat everyone with courtesy and respect and you will get twice that amount in return. The whole crew and you will be happier and the home will be a happier place even before the job is completed.
